Verizon gets iphone – SO WHAT!

I have signed up for postaweek, and this is my current hurricane.  In the grand scheme of things it is more like a tempest in a teapot!  But the little things can get you down!

Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

                                                                                                                                           Song of Solomon 2:14 KJV

It is very old and it goes on and on and on and on and on and it begins and ends with Verizon Wireless.  Verizon gets the iPhone in February, but they still do not have customer service; so, so what!  I always hope for the best, but I just called them, and the first polite person, in sales forwarded me to the second polite person in customer service, who forwarded me to perpetual hold; after 22 minutes I hung up.  I called Verizon’s corporate number in Rochester, NY.  It is circular.  It will not let you speak with an operator, a live person and when you push 1, the call mysteriously fails.  Try it for yourself, (585) 321-7000.  The president of Verizon Wireless is Dan Mead.  His address is 133 Calkins Rd, Rochester NY 14623.  I am writing him a certified letter.  I will update anyone who comments on this post to let you know the response, if any.

This story begins way back  in 2006!  In 2006 my husband had emergency surgery for a disk in his neck that ruptured and fell backward into his spinal column.  By falling into his spinal column, it had caused partial paralysis.  My husband could not lift his hands or move his feet more than a shuffle.  The disk falling into the spinal cord does not show up on x-rays, as it does when it falls out.  The disk normally falls out.  My husband was in the intensive care unit for several days, before the doctors determined the cause of his paralysis, severe pain in his right arm and high fever.

Immediately after the successful surgery, a neighbor to a rental property we owned in South Dakota called us.  Our renters had left on an extended vacation and the relative they had left to watch the house had a family emergency.  Temperatures in South Dakota had plummeted to -28 and all the pipes had frozen in the house.  There was now water running from the front and back doors of the house.  The neighbors were calling as they could not find the water cutoff to the well, to stop the flood.  We had to call the sheriff to break into the house and turn the water off.

After getting my husband home from the Lincoln, NE hospital, still in a neck brace, the insurance company insisted I had to meet an adjuster in Rapid City SD, at the rent house.  We had no family in Nebraska.  I left my eleven year old daughter in charge of my husband and drove to Rapid City, SD – 700 miles away – to meet the adjuster.  I was in constant contact by cell phone.

Water saturated the rent house.  Every cabinet, every carpet, every ceiling, every carpet, even the sheet rock was full of water.   The pipes had been leaking for 2 weeks before the neighbor noticed the water running out the front and back doors.

NOW, we get to Verizon.  Somehow my cell phone got wet and quit working.  I went to Verizon, in a panic.  My husband, just out of surgery and my eleven year old daughter were in Nebraska, 700 miles away and I had no phone to talk to them.  Not to mention the adjuster and contractor and who knows who else I needed to talk to about the situation with the rental house.

The so-called customer service agent at the Verizon store in Rapid City, SD said there was nothing she could do for me, as the phone was water damaged and I was several months away from the “replacement period”.   After calling a supervisor to the desk, (I was in tears. ), I was told I could buy a phone; which I did.

Now begins the on and on and on and on and on part.  Several months later, Verizon threatened to cut our phones off as my husband had not paid his secondary account.  After many, many  phone calls, I finally discovered that when I purchased the phone, for cash in Rapid City, SD, Verizon had set a secondary account up for Gary, with the rental house as an address.  Effusive apologies from Verizon and promises that the second account created in error in South Dakota was deleted from Verizon’s records.

June 2008, we are moving to Texas and apply for a mortgage.  Surprise, Surprise, surprise – Gary now has a collection item on his credit report from Verizon Wireless.  I recognize the amount.  I call Verizon, after many, many, many, many phone calls, being place on hold, hung up on, the usual BS, I finally get an apology and A LETTER saying, surprise, we do not owe this money and we have never owed this money and Verizon is correcting the erroneous information on all 3 credit bureaus.

We are at the end of our contract with Verizon Wireless.  We choose another carrier – AT&T – who, by the way,  has EXCELLENT customer service!

January 2011, I sell my 2001 Suzuki.  Yes, I owned it for 10 years and it was a little sad.  We apply for credit to buy my 2010 Honda Insight and surprise, surprise, surprise – Verizon Wireless shows a collection item for $13.00 more than the original collection item for the non-existent account that my husband did not create in Rapid City, SD in 2006.  See paragraph 1 in this diatribe.

We still were able to finance the Honda Insight, I am still getting my new car.

I read Isaiah 41, the title in The Message Bible is ” Do You Feel Like A Lowly Worm?”  Below is the link.

Who did this? Who made it happen?
   Who always gets things started?
I did. God. I’m first on the scene.
I’m also the last to leave.   Isaiah 41:4 THE MESSAGE

Dealing with the non-existent customer service at Verizon Wireless makes me feel like a lowly worm.  Having  a collection item on his credit report makes my husband feel like a lowly worm.   I am so glad to hear He is still in charge!  I will say it again, Verizon is getting the iPhone, SO WHAT!   Without customer service they are no competition for AT&T.
