life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; It's about learning to dance in the rain.

From The Frying Pan into The Fire, A Psalm of Thanksgiving.

Sometimes it seems to me I am delivered from a hurricane into a tornado!  I know the people of Haiti understand what I am talking about.  First an earthquake that destroys what little they had, then the wonderful promises of international aid; which either never materialized or was diverted by their corrupt government.  And recently, a hurricane.

This is the time of year when we turn our minds to being thankful.  In the middle of our circumstance, quandary and   dilemma; it sometimes seems that everyone else has something to be thankful for, but I, I have my circumstance, my quandary, my dilemma and I do not see a seed of success.  At the exact moment I think I may be seeing some movement I realize that the movement is from the frying pan into the fire.

Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  THE MESSAGE

Jonah was a good man.  Jonah thought he wanted to serve God, until God asked him to serve.  In the God’s frying pan, Jonah ran away and ended up in God’s fire, in the belly of the whale.  There Jonah began to thank  God and there began Jonah’s seed of  success.

I am embedding this video.  It is almost 8 minutes long.  I promise you will be mesmerized by this gifted  young story-teller.

The story of Jonah is very special to me.  In 1980 I had not been to church in over a year.  One Sunday morning I felt compelled to go to church.  I sat on a pew near the back, but it still felt as if the pastor had singled me out and was preaching directly to me.  It seemed he knew exactly what situation I was in and how I got there.  He told the story of Jonah and how he got in the boat to escape and ended up in the storm.  The preacher said that the only way out was to jump out of the boat and GIVE THANKS  for the chaos and fire that would follow.

Chaos and fire did follow.  Many people, friends and family, could not understand why I was willing to jump from the frying pan into the fire.  In the fire, giving thanks, I began to see the seed of my deliverance and success.  I have never regretted that decision.

I am encouraging you to look at where you are in your problem, circumstance, quandry or dilemma.  Is the only way forward from the frying pan into the fire?  I encourge you to jump and give thanks

But who will be able to stand up to that coming? Who can survive his appearance?

He’ll be like white-hot fire from the smelter’s furnace. He’ll be like the strongest lye soap at the laundry. He’ll take his place as a refiner of silver, as a cleanser of dirty clothes. He’ll scrub the priests clean, refine them like gold and silver, until they’re fit for God, fit to present offerings of righteousness.  Malachi 3:2-4  THE MESSAGE
